WorksRemanufactured cartridges print with ink-level detection off
Yes, with a catch. Canon lets you keep printing when a cartridge reads as empty by turning off ink-level detection, and a seller says remanufactured PG-245/CL-246 work that way. You lose ink-level readings.

Third-party and remanufactured cartridges
- Canon lists PG-245, PG-245XL, CL-246, CL-246XL, PG-243 and CL-244 for the TS3300 series and recommends genuine ink.[1]
- Canon says that when the printer reports ink has run out (support codes 1686 and 1688), you can hold Stop for at least 5 seconds to turn off ink-level detection and keep printing.[3][4]
- LD Products, a seller, says remanufactured PG-245/CL-246 may not read like originals, and that holding Stop/Reset lets them print without level tracking. It lists the TS3320 for these cartridges.[5]
Canon account and subscriptions
- We found no Canon requirement for an account or subscription to print. Canon's error steps are local button presses.[4]
Firmware that blocked cartridges
- Canon's TS3320 error pages describe recognition and out-of-ink errors only. We found no source tying a TS3320 firmware update to a cartridge block.[2][3]
To see your version, print a printer status report or open the printer's web page. Compare it with the firmware list.
Workarounds that sources back up
- When a refilled or remanufactured cartridge reads empty, hold Stop for 5 seconds or more to turn off ink-level detection.[3][4] Ink levels are no longer shown for that cartridge. Print quality may suffer.
What does not reliably work
- Error E14 (support code 1684) means the cartridge cannot be recognized at all. Canon's fix is to install a correct cartridge; the Stop override is for cartridges read as empty.[2]

What we could not verify
- A dated 2026 owner report of remanufactured cartridges working on the TS3320's current firmware.
- Whether any Canon firmware has changed how the TS3320 reads third-party chips.
- Seller claims about specific cartridge brands.
