Third-party status
WorksBottle-fed: no cartridge chip to block
Yes. The ET-2800 is filled from T522 bottles, so there is no cartridge chip for firmware to reject. Epson itself says EcoTank printers avoid its cartridge restrictions. The risks are print quality and warranty.
What to do now
- Use ink sold for T522 EcoTank printers and refill before a tank runs dry.[2]Ink quality varies between sellers.
What to buy instead
- Genuine Epson T522 bottles. The safe default, and keyed to fit.
- Compatible T522 bottles. Cheaper. Pick a seller with a return policy.

- Tank & Toner, a review site, says EcoTank printers are bottle-fed with no cartridge chip.[3]
Epson account and subscriptions
- We found no Epson requirement for an account or subscription to print.[2]
Firmware that blocked cartridges
- We found no source tying an EcoTank firmware update to blocking third-party ink. Epson's update warning is aimed at cartridge printers.[1]
To see your version, print a printer status report or open the printer's web page. Compare it with the firmware list.
Workarounds that sources back up

What does not reliably work
- Counting on the warranty: Epson says its warranties do not extend to damage caused by third-party ink or ink not designed for the printer.[4]
