Third-party status
UnknownNon-HP chips blocked by design; no firmware number confirmed
HP says the 2755e blocks non-HP circuitry by design, and with HP+ on, refilled or non-HP cartridges will not work as expected. No named firmware block, so the status is Unknown.
What to do now
- Skip HP+ at setup if you want any chance with refills or non-HP cartridges.[3]HP+ cannot be undone later.
- Use cartridges that reuse an original HP chip (some remanufactured cartridges do). HP says these are not affected by dynamic security.[1]Ask the seller if the chip is a reused HP chip before you buy.
What to buy instead
- Genuine HP 67 / 67XL. Always accepted, including with HP+.
- Remanufactured 67 with a reused HP chip. Check the chip is reused HP.

Also applies to: Other DeskJet 2700e series models that take HP 67 (check your cartridge number).
Third-party and remanufactured cartridges
- HP's store page says the 2755e is meant for cartridges with HP electronic circuitry and may block others, now or after updates.[1]
- In August 2024 an owner's refilled HP 67 cartridge was not accepted. HP's reply said there is no user setting to turn dynamic security off.[2]
HP account, HP+ and Instant Ink
- HP+ is optional at setup. HP says you can skip it.[3]
- HP's user guide says HP+ printers must stay connected to the internet, and with non-Original or refilled cartridges they will not operate as expected.[4]
Firmware that blocked cartridges
- We found no source naming a 2755e firmware version that blocks cartridges. HP's guide describes checking for updates from the printer's web page.[4]
To see your version, print a printer status report or open the printer's web page. Compare it with the firmware list.

What we could not verify
- Any named firmware version that blocks HP 67 cartridges on the 2755e.
- A setting to stop automatic updates (HP's 2700e guide does not document one).
- Whether refills work on a 2755e that never had HP+ enabled.
