Third-party status
BlockedNon-HP chips blocked; 8035 named in the 2606/2607 wave
Usually not for long. The 8035e only accepts cartridges with an HP chip, owners report working third-party 910s being blocked after updates, and the 8035 was named in HP's March 2026 lockout.
What to do now
- Use cartridges that reuse an original HP chip (some remanufactured or refilled cartridges do). HP says these are not affected by dynamic security.[3]The April 2026 refill report shows even reused HP chips can be rejected as 'used'. Ask the seller about returns.
- Skip HP+ at setup if you want any chance with non-HP ink.[7][8]HP says HP+ cannot be turned off once activated, and skipping it does not remove dynamic security.
What to buy instead
- Genuine HP 910 / 910XL. Always accepted, including with HP+.
- Remanufactured 910 with a reused HP chip. Ask the seller to confirm the chip is a reused HP chip, and check their return policy for firmware blocks.
- Account required
- Only with HP+

- HP 910 / 910XL

- HP firmware 2606 and 2607

Also applies to: OfficeJet Pro 8035 (non-'e', no HP+). Other 8010 to 8028 models use the same HP 910 cartridges; see the 8025 page.
Third-party and remanufactured cartridges
- Int'l ITC, a remanufacturers' trade group, lists the OfficeJet Pro 8035 among the HP 910 printers hit by HP's March 2026 firmware 2606/2607, which disabled remanufactured cartridges. It names the 8035, not the 8035e specifically.[1][2]
- HP's policy: dynamic security printers are meant to work only with cartridges that have a new or reused HP chip, and cartridges with a non-HP chip may work for a while, then stop after a firmware update.[3]
- On HP's forum in April 2025, an 8035 owner said third-party cartridges worked fine until the printer updated to the latest firmware, and factory resets did not help. An HP employee replied that the update likely re-enabled Dynamic Security.[4]
- An 8035e owner wrote in February 2025 that off-brand cartridges worked for about a year before the printer locked them out. A volunteer expert replied that every cartridge needs an embedded HP chip and there is no reset to remove that.[5]
- BCH Technologies, a refill supplier, answered an April 2026 question from an 8035e owner whose refilled original 910s printed for about two weeks, then were rejected as 'used or counterfeit'. It says there is usually no reliable way to bring those cartridges back.[6]
HP account, HP+ and Instant Ink
- HP+ is optional on 'e' models and chosen at setup. With HP+ on, the printer needs an HP account, an internet connection and Original HP ink for the life of the printer.[7]
- The plain 8035 is not an HP+ model, so no HP account is needed to print on it.[7]
Firmware that blocked cartridges
- Firmware 2606/2607 (March 2026). Our sources do not say which number the 8035 or 8035e received.[1]
- 2623A (June 26, 2026) is listed by a cartridge maker for the 8010e to 8035e family. We have no report that it blocks new cartridges.[8]

Workarounds that sources back up
- Use cartridges that reuse an original HP chip (some remanufactured or refilled cartridges do). HP says these are not affected by dynamic security.[3] The April 2026 refill report shows even reused HP chips can be rejected as 'used'. Ask the seller about returns.
- Skip HP+ at setup if you want any chance with non-HP ink.[7][8] HP says HP+ cannot be turned off once activated, and skipping it does not remove dynamic security.
What does not reliably work
- Factory or semi-full resets: the April 2025 8035 owner tried both and the cartridges stayed blocked.[4]
- Rolling back firmware: HP's forum staff say older 8020 series firmware is removed once replaced and downgrades are not supported.[9]

What we could not verify
- Whether Int'l ITC's '8035' listing for firmware 2606/2607 includes the 8035e.
- Which of 2606 or 2607 the 8035e received, and the exact release day.
- Seller claims that 910 cartridges work on 2623A without HP+.
- An HP-published menu path on the 8035e to turn off automatic updates.
